Month 5

First teeth
Most babies get their teeth between five and ten months of age. For some babies, this doesn't cause any trouble at all, whilst others suffer more. Babies can be unsettled, restless and continuously put their fingers in their mouth. You can help your child through this phase by giving them something cool to bite on (a cooling teething ring for example) or gently massaging their cheeks. Your pharmacist will also be able to advise you on homeopathic remedies for teething. Most children get their incisors first, followed by the canines and molars. Don't worry if your baby's teeth appear in a different order, though!
Toys should now be "bite-proof", i.e. preferably made from wood or plastic. Check that products are "lick-proof" before you buy! Your baby will also love toys that play sounds when shaken.

Sixth tip for daddies:
Don't be afraid to do something "on your own" with your little gem, without mummy. As well as giving mummy an opportunity to relax, this time is very important in strengthening the bond between you and your child.
